A story about the wishing well
After passing the statue of the Little Prince and walking towards the House of Peace, you'll come across the Book Staircase. As the name implies, it resembles a stack of books painted with various book covers. Once you climb the Book Staircase, you'll encounter the story and the Cheondeoksu Well.
‘Cheondeoksu’ translates to 'the great water comes from heaven.' Near the well, several illusion paintings create an immersive experience within the story about a kind young man.
This young man was renowned throughout the village for his kindness. He cared for his mother and younger brother diligently. During a severe drought, the village's land began to dry up, and the existing wells ran dry. Determined to provide water for the village, the young man resolved to dig a new well. Without sleep or food for days, he tirelessly dug. Eventually, he was too weak to continue and could only pray to God before he collapsed. Sadly, he never woke up again after completing his prayer. Touched by his integrity, God decided to send rain to the village. Since then, the well dug by the young man has always been filled with clean water.
The villagers named it Cheondeoksu Well, believing that earnest prayers made at the well could reach God and make wishes come true. Why not take a few seconds to make a wish here?
