A house fulfilled by peace wishing messages
Making a wish in front of Cheondeoksu Well and walking down a wide road, you'll encounter a huge fish on the wall. This artwork, named 'Fish in the Alley,' was created by Artist Jin Yeong-seop and is similar as the village entrance. It's placed at the end of the village to notice visitors that they're still within the area of Gamcheon Culture Village. On the floor, you may notice the words 'House of Peace' written in white, guiding you toward its location.
The House of Peace is painted in white, an artwork created by Artist Jeong Hui-uk, formally known as 'House of Peace ? Bowl Room/ Moon Room.' The artist aims to commemorate the history of Gamcheon-dong, originally established due to the Korean War. Additionally, the artist hopes to encapsulate the meaning of wishing for peace by recording and attaching messages and signatures of visitors to the wall, embodying hopes for national peace and human prosperity. That's why there's a bowl for collecting wishes and a representation of the moon in the house, symbols of prayer and peace. The color white is regarded as a symbol of peace. The house is adorned with many writings and notes containing messages of peace. Although it is not immediately visible from afar, numerous traces left by many people can be found upon close inspection.
Adjacent to the House of Peace, a small park offers a quick resting spot. While seated on the rocking chair and observing Gamcheon Village, you can take in the deeply peaceful scenery. To explore other artworks within the alleys, you'll need to pass through a narrow path from the House of Peace. The path is so narrow that if someone approaches from the opposite direction, you may have to step back, demonstrating the virtue of compromise. Such simple acts contribute to maintaining peace... don't you think this is precisely what the House of Peace aims to promote?
