Gwaneumjeon Hall (Bulguksa Temple)

Gwaneumjeon Hall, situated at the summit of Bulguksa Temple, boasts a significant position atop the highest terrace. The ascent to this hall is quite steep, its steps deliberately constructed to mimic a mountain. This design aims to guide disciples in quieting their minds and enhancing focus, one step at a time.

Upon entry, visitors encounter an image of a saint adorned with a thousand eyes and a thousand arms. Bulguksa Temple venerates numerous Buddhist saints alongside Sakyamuni Buddha. One prominent figure depicted is Avalokita Bodhisattva, the Buddhist symbol of mercy. Her myriad eyes and arms epitomize compassion for the suffering. In Eastern traditions, people recite her name in prayer, seeking relief from pain and the bestowal of happiness.

After experiencing the serene and compassionate ambiance of Gwaneumjeon Hall, a central sanctuary of Bulguksa Temple, our exploration invites us to delve further into the temple's intricate cultural and historical treasures, offering us profound insights into the temple’s cultural significance and artistic craftsmanship. The journey at Bulguksa Temple unfolds with more discoveries awaiting our curious gaze.
