Geungnakjeon Hall houses Amita Buddha, a revered figure guiding believers to the Buddhist utopia. In Buddhist symbolism, this utopia is depicted as a land in the west, where individuals lead lives free from worldly concerns, experiencing happiness. The method by which Amita Buddha accomplishes this is beautifully illustrated in a mural on the right wall of the building. You'll notice a dragon-shaped boat in the painting, representing the saint guiding people from this world to the utopia.
The stairs beneath the small gate on the side of the building, there are Yeonhwagyo Bridge and Chilbogyo Bridge. These intricately carved stairs, although small, are referred to as bridges, symbolizing the link between the earthly realm and the utopia. They signify the transition from the real world to the utopian one.
Furthermore, this unique temple building features a sculpture not found in any other temple. Discreetly positioned behind a sign displaying the building's name, it is highly recommended visitors to explore and discover this sculpture.
The people of Silla showcased exceptional architectural skills in constructing Bulguksa Temple, aiming to create Buddha's heavenly land on Earth. It is a great place to leisurely explore the temple, immersing in its rich cultural and artistic elements.
