Cheonwangmun Gate

Inspired by the legend of the Four Heavenly Kings helping Sakrodevandra protect Buddhism on the slopes of Mount Sumeru, Tongdosa Temple features a Cheonwangmun Gate (Gate for the Four Heavenly Kings) to call upon the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhism as guardians and protect the temple from evil spirits. The gate was also built to erase distracting thoughts from the minds of people entering the temple.
