The simnidaebat field that stretches along the crystal clear stream
Taehwagang Grand Park is the largest waterside park in the country. It was created along Taehwagang River, which runs right through downtown Ulsan. Taehwagang River was once dying with foul smells due to industrialization, but the restoration project that continued for some 10 years from 2002 transformed the river into a clear stream with first class water quality. With the revival of the river, the waterside field was reborn as Taehwagang Grand Park where a dense green shade with bamboos, rape flowers and forage barley flourish. In particular, the bamboo field created between Taehwagyo Bridge and Samhogyo Bridge stretches as long as 4km, thus the name 'simnidaebat field', which means a 4-kilometer-long bamboo field. The origin of the bamboo field dates back to the Japanese colonial era when the residents began to plant bamboos to prevent frequent floods that caused heavy damage to the farmlands. The bamboo forest is very popular as a walking course that is green throughout the year. It is refreshing to stroll under the cool shades of tall bamboo trees while listening to the sound of the leaves rustling with the wind. Also, the park is full of colorful flowers. There are flower gardens planted with seven flower species including poppies, cornflowers and gypsophila. When the spring comes, as many as 60 million blossoms are in full bloom all around the place, which just looks like a paradise.
