Yeongchunheon House (Changgyeonggung Palace)

Yeongchunheon House is a small building on the east side of Jipbokheon House. King Jeongjo built this palace to take care of his mother, Lady Hyegyeong of the Hong clan, when he was staying at Changgyeonggung Palace. He used this place as his library and residence.

No one knows exactly when Yeongchunheon House was built, but it was destroyed in a fire in 1830 during the reign of the 23rd King Sunjo. It was later rebuilt in 1834. When King Jeongjo built the house, he kept it in a simple style without any decorations so as to remind himself of his people living in poverty.

Yeongchunheon House is a rectangular-shaped building. On either side and at the back of the building, there were outhouses all around it. In the entrance, there is a huge natural rock that has been there since its construction.

Originally, not far from Yeongchunheon House, there was a building called Jagyeongjeon Hall. It was the living quarters where Lady Hyegyeong of the Hong clan lived. King Jeongjo was such a filial son that he often visited and spent time with her at Jagyeongjeon Hall. One day, King Jeongjo sent the clothes to Lady Hyegyeong of the Hong clan as a gift. He took a deep bow together with his son to show his respect to Lady Hyegyeong of the Hong clan. Unfortunately, King Jeongjo passed away at Yeongchunheon House at age 49 due to a malignant tumor.
