Gochang Dolmen Site Course 1
[Man]
The Gochang Dolmen Site Course 1 is located at the eastern end of the dolmen site. There are 53 dolmens at the foot of the mountain and the ridge running from Jungbong Peak in Juklim-ri, consisting of one table dolmen, 12 go-board dolmens, 28 pad-stone dolmens, and 12 dolmens of unknown types.

The table dolmens have a burial chamber made of 4 or 6 wide flagstones that are exposed above the ground, with a flat capstone placed on top of the burial chamber. They are called table dolmens because they resemble a table. They were once called northern-style dolmens because they were mainly found north of the Han River and in the Liaoning province of China."
[Man]
The table dolmens shown in Room 2509 are shaped to form a modified table-like form. The capstone is 340 cm long and 150 cm high, and although it may appear like a go-board dolmen, there are two supporting stones of 220 cm and 80 cm long standing parallel to each other at 80 cm intervals in the lower structure, showing a mixture of table and go-board styles.

On the other hand, the dolmen No. 2513 is a typical go-board dolmen with five supporting stones. The characteristic of this dolmen is that its supporting stones are decorated with patterns shaped like pillars. The supporting stones that support or prop the capstone directly hold the capstone while preventing any destruction to the burial chamber in the lower structure.
[Man]
The pad-stone dolmens have a capstone placed right above the burial chamber built underground. The pad-stone dolmens that cover their burial chambers without any supporting stones are alternatively referred to as no-support, lid, or footstone dolmens. In this type, a stone burial chamber is almost always found, indicating that they were originally intended to serve as tombs.
[Woman]
There is a legend of a man from the north and a woman from the south related to the dolmen No. 2509 in course 1. It is also a story that has been around for centuries in Maesan Village. The son of a chieftain who lived in Ganghwado Island had lost in a war, and sailed south with a few tribe members to arrive at the Maesan village through the Simwonman Harbor of Gochang. After that, he became close with the daughter of the chieftain of Maesan village, and went to obtain permission from her father to marry her.
[Son of Chieftain from Ganghwado Island]
"I would like to request your daughter's hand in marriage, sir. We are in love.”
[Daughter of Chieftain of Gochang]
“Father, please say yes.”
[Chieftain of Gochang]
"You’ll never marry her. Not over my dead body. Sweetheart, he is just a failure who lost in the war and has fled to us. I can't allow someone like that to marry my daughter. Leave at once! God forbid! Not a chance!”
[Daughter of Chieftain of Gochang]
"Oh, father, I think this is the end for me.”
[Chieftain of Gochang]
"Open your eyes, my child. It's all my fault. Sweetheart! No!!!”
[Villager 1]
"After he was so adamant against her marriage, he has let her go. I feel sorry for her death.”
[Villager 2]
“Hey, watch what you say. Our chieftain might hear you. By the way, this tomb looks somewhat unique.”
[Villager 1]
"They say it is a combination of northern and southern styles to suggest the permission for their marriage after her death.”
[Villager 2]
“I knew there was something about the dolmen. That's why the dolmen is built like that.”
