A Thousand Delights in the Western Sea
Seocheon Special Market is only 5 minutes away from Seocheon Intercity Bus Terminal on foot. It was rebuilt as the modernized special market by integrating street stalls and the old market place scattered around Seocheon in September 2004. The special market is sectioned by fishery, general goods, agricultural produces, eateries, and fish drying so that you can enjoy shopping indoors in any season.
In the special market, all of the unique goods of Seocheon are assembled. The freshest catches and dried seafood of the western sea are waiting to be tasted, and the special goods of Seocheon, such as dried seaweed, Hansan Sogokju, a traditional Korean liquor from Hansan, Seocheon’s old name, and rice cake made with ramie leaves can be purchased here. In the eatery section, you can enjoy menus from simple banquet noodle soups to Korean-style fast food dishes filled with the warmth and generosity of local people.
Seocheon Special Market is also famous for their efforts to renew their traditional marketplace in various ways. They run diverse clubs and provide special courses for local merchants so that they can cope with the fast-changing environment. In fact, they started “Noljang Broadcasting Station” in June 2020 and have been running a community broadcast where the merchants host shows engaging visitors.
The special market is held every 5 days on the 2nd and 7th (2, 7,12,17,22, and 27). It takes place in the parking lot behind the general goods section. On those days, there are many eye-catching diversified goods by street vendors that will surely entertain while strolling around.
