The last streetcar of Busan that disappeared into history

Grandma: Ah, I thought all of it had disappeared…It’s really here.

Grandma: It looks cleaner than the streetcar in my memory.

Student: That’s true. It looks like it can even start running right now. If the last stop of the streetcar was Gudeok Stadium, where did it start from?

Grandma: Do you know where Oncheonjang is? It ran from there and went through Dongnae, Seomyeon, Beomil-dong, Choryang and Busan Station and passed through the City Hall and Nampo-dong to Gudeok Station. There was also a line that went from Busan City Hall to Yeongdo.

Student: I heard that on October 31, 1915, the Busan Station and Oncheonjang section were opened, and the era of the Busan streetcars began, and about 50 streetcars were running in the city.
It operated well for 53 years. So, why did it disappear?

Grandma: It was because of the buses.

Student: Since buses are fast, many people took the bus instead of the slow streetcars, and as the financial loss accumulated, the Busan streetcars disappeared into history....


Grandma: That’s right. The number of cars also increased and people preferred fast things....So streetcars that ran slowly along the rails were gradually neglected.
But it’s very nice to reminisce about the old days like this by looking at this streetcar.
