The Unification Village, known as Tongilchon in Korean, marks the final stop of the DMZ Peace Tour. Its administrative district is located in Policy Resident Village, only 4.5 kilometers south of the Military Demarcation Line.

The village is established in August 1973 following a special directive from the President to ‘build a strategic pilot farming village that addressed the deficiencies of the reconstructive village’. At that time, it comprised a total of 84 households, including 40 households from the original inhabitants of that area, 40 households from the 1st Division reserve officers and non-commissioned officers, and 4 households consisting of families working at the school, pumping station, and church. Over 30 years, the population has increased, and it currently houses 102 households.

Additionally, during the early 1970s, the previously neglected land underwent cultivation to produce food and crops. Since the village has been maintained as a privately controlled area, there have been no factories or pollutants in the vicinity for 50 years. The clean natural environment, combined with fertile soil, allows the village to produce Korean Ginseng, rice, and soybean, renowned as the special products of Paju and known as ‘Jangdan Sam Baek’, three white food produced in Jangdan Province of Paju. Notably, a Soybean Festival is even held in the village in every November.
