Bangsatap Stone Tower of Gwaneumsa

I see a charming stone tower over there. Why is it placed here?
[Curator]
This is called Bangsatap Stone Tower. In Jeju, there has been a tradition of making stone towers for the well-being of one’s clan and village for generations. A tradition of placing a bird-shaped or human-shaped stone on top of the tower has been passed down over the years. Since this is a temple ground, a round stone was placed on top to represent the dharma wheel.

So this is an example of the Buddhist culture and the local culture meeting harmoniously?
[Curator]
Yes, Bangsatop Stone Tower is an excellent example of how Buddhism was able to become integrated into the folk beliefs of Jeju. It was created for people who wish to get rid of their misfortune and attain good fortune, so it is very popular among those who are seeking to have their wished or prayers fulfilled.
