Samseonggak, the Three Sages Shrine, of Gwaneumsa

Samseonggak, the Three Sages Shrine, of Gwaneumsa

[Curator]

In Samseonggak, the three sages: the Mountain Spirit, the Spirit of the Big Dipper, and the Solitary Sage are enshrined. Samseong Belief came about from a local belief based on the three sages. This belief was absorbed into Buddhism in the localization process in Korea. In the Three Sages Shrine, a painting of the Dragon King under the sea is also enshrined. Because of its location, the island, the painting is extremely well-received by the people in Jeju Island.

[Visitor]

So this unique part of the culture is derived from its location.
