Overview of Seoul Baekje Museum

Seoul Baekje Museum is located in Songpa-gu of Seoul. It was established to foster Seoul’s cultural identity as a two-thousand-year-old city by researching the relics and sites in the Seoul area and utilizing the heritage as cultural and tourism assets.

The construction plan of Seoul Baekje Museum was set up in 2004 and executed after four years. The construction was eventually completed in 2010, and the museum officially opened in 2012.

The museum boasts a spectacular and unique building architectural design. Its design was recognized with Korean Architecture Awards and Seoul Architecture Prize in 2012. It was built in a vessel shape to resemble the outline of Mongchon earthen fortress, which symbolizes the maritime power during Hanseong Baekje dynasty. Also, it was established to be a landmark of Songpa district by harmonizing with the surroundings.

Seoul Baekje Museum consists of four sections. Upon entering the lobby, you will encounter the cross section of Pungnap Earthen Fortress right in front of you. Walking to the left, you can see the special exhibition hall, which features diverse themes all year round. To the right, you can access the prologue and Exhibition Hall 1. These sections tell the story of the prehistoric civilization in Seoul area during the dawn of Baekje dynasty. After exiting Hall 1, you can proceed upstairs to Exhibition Hall 2 and Hall 3. In these two halls, you can explore the confrontation among the three kingdoms: Baekje, Goguryeo and Silla, as well as the history of the Baekje dynasty following the fall of its capital in Hanseong. Lastly, the epilogue serves as the last stop of the museum, displaying the future of Seoul.

For those interested in delving deeper into the history of the Baekje dynasty, there is a 4D theater room next to the epilogue. You can enjoy a 15-minute 4D video with two themes available. Since the two videos are played intermittently, please remember to check the schedule on the museum's website in advance.
