Dadaepo Beach
“Dadaepo,” one of the oldest names in Busan, is located where Nakdonggang and the South Sea meet. In 『Samguk Sagi (historical record of the Three Kingdoms of Korea: Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla)』, there appears a place named “Dapdal”, and this is presumed to refer to “Dadae” of Dadaepo. During a similar period, a book named 『Nihongi』 revealed the names of places such as “Dadara” or “Dadarajin” and it is assumed that these words eventually evolved into “Dadae”.
Japanese invaders frequently appeared in this area so, during the Joseon Period, a military camp was installed here to make it one of the 7 military zones that protected the Gyeongsangjwa-do Province. This is also the ground for the historic “Battle of Dadaepo”, which was one of the earliest battles that took place during the Japanese invasion of 1592 along with the Battle of Busanjin. Today, it has become a peaceful and relaxing coast thanks to its beach and Sunset Fountain of Dreams.
You can get to the beach and park by getting off at Dadaepo Beach Station (Morundae Station), the final stop of Busan Subway Line 1. Known as the “Fantastic Music Foundation”, the Dadaepo Sunset Fountain of Dreams is located inside the beach park.
Operating from April to October of every year, the Sunset Fountain of Dreams first opened in 2010. The first music fountain installed in Busan, it is a beautiful fountain that shoots streams of water upward in sync to the music and lighting. Thanks to its enormous size and height, it was listed as the “world's largest ground fountain” by the Guinness World Records in 2010.
As the name suggests, the Sunset Fountain holds music performances in the evening for about 20 minutes, and, since the hours of operation and frequencies vary depending on the season and date, we recommend you to check the times in advance. Music performances are popular even on weekdays and the seats are on a first-come, first-served basis in an open space so you need to be there early in order to get good seats.
If you post a story and song request in advance onto the Saha-gu District Office website, you may be able to see the music fountain dancing to the song you want. It's a great opportunity to do something special for your loved one or for families to make long-lasting memories.
