Busan Modern History Museum

Built in 1929 during the Japanese colonial period, it is the history museum where you can see the modern history of Busan. In the beginning, it was used as the Busan Branch of Oriental Colonization Company, an agency responsible for exploiting colonies, but after the Liberation, it started to serve as Busan Cultural Center for the United States Information Service in 1949. However, due to ceaseless demands from Busan citizens for its return, the American cultural center left the building in the end. It was returned to the Korean government in 1999 before the city of Busan took it over in June of the same year. As it was a symbol of invasion and exploitation, the building became the Busan Modern History Museum to be able to utilize it for education to teach the citizens on our painful history. The museum opened on July 3, 2003. The exhibition hall has a map that shows the opening and reclamation of Busan Port with modern stories of the city through various videos. Busan Modern History Museum tells us a lot of interesting stories about the city's modern history.
