Mireuksa Temple Site: The Replicas of the West Pagoda and the Wooden Pagoda

Pagodas Destroyed and Gone

The replicas of the west pagoda and the nine-story wooden pagoda are exhibited side by side.

Among the three pagodas of Mireuksa, the west pagoda was left damaged as you can see here.

The west side is most severely damaged. Fortunately, the east side has one portion remaining that is six stories high. The actual height of the west pagoda is more than 14 meters, and one side of the lowest part of the pagoda is more than 12 meters. The restoration of this west pagoda is still going on outside the exhibition museum. There, you’ll be able to visualize the pagoda that intact.

Next, let’s take a look at the restored replica of the nine-story wooden pagoda in the center of the temple. One side of the lowest part is approximately 18 meters long, which is significantly larger than the west pagoda.

The big wooden pagoda was built in the center, and stone pagodas of smaller size were built on both sides to maintain the balance.
