Aphaedo Island, Sinan
Aphaedo Island, located in Aphae-eup, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, is an island of an administrative center with the vision of becoming a new maritime city. It is also the home of the Sinan-gun Office. The name "Aphaedo" derives from its shape, which resembles an octopus's legs stretching out in three directions, pressing against the sea and mudflats. This name fits well for an island floating in the middle of the mudflats along the west coast.
There is a Cheonsaseom Bonsai Park on Aphaedo Island, where you can appreciate bonsai art with the backdrop of the Dadohae. It is like a natural art gallery exhibiting various bonsai trees such as pine, yew, Korean Hornbeam, and golden pine, as well as various Shona sculptures.
Songgongsan Mountain on Aphaedo Island is famous for its mountains, seas, and leisurely hiking trails. No matter which course you choose, the presence of the sea and islands will be accompanying the hikers, their families, and their friends.
Aphaedo Island is particularly popular in winter because baby camellias bloom red alone in the snowy winter. The baby camellia flower, which is the highlight of Sinan-gun's representative festival, "Island Winter Flower Festival," blossoms with around 40 million flowers from over 20,000 baby camellia trees planted at the foot of Songgongsan Mountain in Aphaedo Island on a scale of 50,000 pyeong.
