Jangsado Island, Tongyeong
Jangsado Island, located in Hansan-myeon, Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, is named for its shape, which resembles a snake slithering out. It was once called "Jamsado Island" or "Nueseom Island" due to its long shape, which resembles a silkworm (Nue, 누에).
Jangsado Island is a beautiful island known for its scenic beauty created by over 100,000 camellia trees, Machilus thunbergii, and Castanopsis sieboldii, along with a camellia habitat that reaches its peak bloom in February and March. Not only camellias but also over 200 species of native flowers and over 1,000 species of diverse plants bloom and wither throughout the four seasons, allowing visitors to fully experience the beauty of nature.
Besides, there are various themed gardens such as the Dongbaek tunnel-gil, Miro Garden, and Herb Garden, located all over the island, provide many nice photo zones. Taking photos along the Dongbaek tunnel-gil, where fairy lights combine nicely with the camellia trees, is considered the highlight of a trip to Jangsado Island.
Apart from that, there are numerous large and small observatories where you can enjoy the natural environment of Hansando Island and the atmosphere of Hallyeo Haesang National Marine Park at a glance. There are some other attractions, such as an outdoor performance venue and an outdoor gallery.
Enjoy the superb view of Hallyeosudo and the harmony of camellia on the beautiful Jangsado Island, which was reborn as a cultural maritime park in December 2011.
