Gwanmaedo Island, Jindo
Gwanmaedo Island, located in Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do is the representative island among the six islands designated as part of the Dadohaehaesang National Park. It is highly valued as an ecological tourist destination with beautiful views and stunning landscapes.
In the calm sea surrounding Gwanmaedo Island, there are various attractions created by nature itself, including the beautiful landscapes known as the "Eight Scenic Views of Gwanmae," a bright rapeseed field that signals the arrival of spring, and an 800-year-old natural monument, the Machilus thunbergii.
In particular, transforming the farmland of 30,000 pyeong into a rapeseed field has turned it into a beautiful sightseeing spot that attracts a large number of tourists. From April to late May, the blooming rapeseed flowers give both the mind and body a rest.
If the rapeseed flowers represent spring on Gwanmaedo Island, then the 2 km-long white sand beach with stunning sunsets and the pine forest enveloping the sky-blue sea and coastline represent one of the most beautiful pine forests in Korea, where visitors can enjoy camping under the beautiful stars.
There is an interesting legend in Gwanmae-do Island, and it has been said that since early times on rainy days, Halmi-dokkaebi(goblin) appeared in Halmi Jungdeuraengigul Cave, one of the eight scenic views of Gwanmae. Rumors have it that even if you walk into the cave with a torch, the light will switch off and you will hear a mysterious sound. It is said that even the people who are known as the bravest cannot make it to the end. Hence, even now, the length of the cave remains unknown. Fascinating, right?
Come and feel the charm of the colorful island at Gwanmaedo Island, Jindo.
