Hallyeohaesang National Park
Do you know that Hallyeohaesang National Park is the first national marine park in Korea? Stretching from Hansando Island in Tongyeong-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, all the way to Yeosu-si in Jeollanam-do, Hallyeohaesang National Park covers parts of Hallyeosudo, Namhaedo Island, and the coastal areas of Geojedo Island. It is also the second-largest national park after Dadohaehaesang National Park in Korea.
Hallyeohaesang National Park, with 76% of its area made up of marine zones, is known as the most beautiful sea route. It consists of seventy-one uninhabited islands and twenty-nine inhabited islands. Along the 300-ri (120km) waterway, the park features a stunning harmony of small and large islands, making it a treasure trove of marine ecosystems. This beautiful scenery attracts over 3 million visitors every year.
Hallyeohaesang National Park is highly valued as a geological field site where you can observe the effects of volcanic activity on the Korean Peninsula, weathering by strong waves and water, and features of dinosaur habitats. Famous attractions for observing geological features of Hallyeohansang National Park includes Sochido Island and Geumsan Mountain in Namhae-gun, and Aduseom Island in Sacheon-si.
Hallyeohaesang National Park, with its diverse charm, can be divided into six distinct areas. As its scale and location vary, you can enjoy and experience the diverse charms of the park to the fullest!
If it is your first time visiting Hallyeohaesang National Park surrounded by beautiful ocean, it is recommended to start from Hallyeohaesang Bada Bangnigil Street in Tongyeong-si. This trail consists of themed paths spread across six islands in Hallyeohaesang Island. From the Hansando Historic Trail with Admiral Yi Sun-sin to the nature-friendly Yeondaedo Jigetgil trail, each route provides a unique experience. It would be a pleasant trip where you can be surprised at the beautiful nature and engaging themes.
