Daeson Daedo Island
In Korea, there are some islands with limited access all year-round to preserve its high natural value. These islands are called “Uninhabited Islands under Absolute Conservation”, and Daeson Daedo Island located in Hallyeohaesang National Park belongs to one of these islands with restricted access because of its high conservation value.
Daeson Daedo Island located in Geoje-si, Gyeongsangnam-do looks like a traditional conical hat rising above the sea. Near Daeson Daedo Island, there are about fifteen large and small islands, and the two largest islands together are known as either “Daeson Daedo” or “Daebyeong Daedo”.
Daeson Daedo Island composed of rocky coast features a variety of geological formations shaped by wave erosion such as sea cliffs, sea caves, and vertical joints. There are also populations of Machilus and Pinus Thunbergii on the island. In the surrounding waters, various marine invertebrates, such as Halichondria japonica and Anthopleura japonica, as well as diverse seaweed species, inhabit the area.
Hallyeosudo, one of the eight sights of Geoje, is made of beautiful islands. Most of all, Daeson Daedo Island makes its landscape more magnificent with the nearby inhabited or uninhabited islands such as Maemuldo Island, Somaemuldo Island, and Deungdaeseom Island. You can view the beauty of Daeson Daedo Island and island nearby the Yeocha Hongpo Observatory located at southern tip of Geojedo Island.
