Poru, an artillery pavilion, protrudes outward and serves to attack the enemy by housing artillery inside. Among the five artillery pavilions in Hwaseong Fortress, Seoporu is one of them. Seoporu was originally built in 1796 during the Joseon Dynasty and was restored in 1975. Although they all appear similar, each pavilion possesses its unique characteristics.
Seoporu was built near the top of Paldal Mountain and was designed to help soldiers attack the enemy effectively by taking advantage of the geographical characteristics of the steep slope. Particularly, Seoporu is slightly smaller and features a staircase. Its construction on a slope resulted in a smaller size compared to the northwestern and northeastern artillery, which were installed on flat land. Consequently, the number of artillery pieces and shooting holes was also reduced.
