Seobuk Gongsimdon

The Seobuk Gongsimdon was constructed in order to defend the Hwaseomun area. It had holes called Pohyeols on each floor, and the upper floor wall had arrow slits. Soldiers entered through a small gate called the Hongyemun on the lower floor.

The Gongshimdon is a unique facility which was built only at the Hwaseon among the other fortresses of Joseon Dynasty. This is why King Jungjo was satisfied with the structure, and told his vassals to freely observe it, as it was the first of its kind to be built in our country.
