Janganmun
The Janganmun is the main gate of the Fortress, situated to the north. It is adorned with curved rainbows both inside and outside, and is surrounded by an auxiliary fortress wall called the Bukonseong.
The name ‘Jangan’ came from the name of an old capital city of China, ‘Jangan’. This name carried King Jungjo’s wish that Hwaseong would prosper long as a new capital city.
The Janganmun originally had a similar shape and size to the southern gate, the Paldalmun. But as the gate and the fortress walls were connected to each other during its restoration, we can now go above the gates unlike its counterpart.
