Banghwasuryujeong

The Dongbuk Gangnu situated on the hill next to the Hwahongmun, the Banghwasuryujeong, was used as an emergency military command post. However, it is also quite decorated with various trees and a Yongyeon, a King’s pond. Its manifold Paljak roof also displays an architectural beauty rarely seen in other structures in Hwaseong.

The building costs for the Banghwasuryujeong was ten times that of the Dongnamgakru and the Seobuk Gangnu. This is why King Jungjo, who sought modesty as a virtue, chastised the construction manager.
