Changnyongmun Gate
There are black, white, red, and blue flags on the Fortress walls. These colors represent the guardian animals of the four cardinal directions. The east is the blue dragon’s blue, the west is the white of the white tiger, the north is the Hyunmu (Black Tortoise and Serpent)'s black, the north is the Jujak (Vermilion Bird)’s red, and the center is yellow, representing the king.
Now you can guess why the flags around the Changnyongmun Gate are blue – this is because the gate is situated to the east.
The eastern Changnyongmun Gate is a sibling gate of the Hwaseomun Gate to the west, and is decorated with a Paljak roof, a Mullu and an Ongseong, rivaling it in its splendor.
