Buk Gunyeong

In 1785 during the Joseon Dynasty, King Jungjo reorganized the military system and created the royal guard to symbolize his powerful royal authority. During the expansion of the palace in 1794, new guard buildings called ‘Gunyeong’ were placed on the left and right sides of the main gate. Among these, the guard building located on northern side is referred to as the ‘Buk Gunyeong.’ The initial construction of Gunyeong occurred in 1789, with subsequent extensions in 1794, resulting in a size of 62 units. Buk Gunyeong is one of the two military units within Hwaseong Temporary Palace, where King Jeongjo's Guard was stationed. The primary force in Jangyeongwaeyoung, composed of cavalry known as Chingunwui, entered Buk Gunyeong in two rows, each consisting of 100 people.

However, two years after King Jungjo’s death, the Royal Guard was disbanded in 1802. Furthermore, Hwaseong Seongyeokwuigweh is classified as a government office due to its documentation of the construction of Hwaseong Fortress.
