Hwaryeonjeon
The Hwaryeonjeon was where King Jungjo’s portrait was kept and ancestral rites were held every year. It was built by King Sunjo, who wished to learn from his father’s own filial devotion. King Sunjo personally wrote the signboard on the Jeongjeon.
When the structure was built, it had the Yiancheong, Jaeshil, Hyangdaecheong, Jaegigo, Wehsammun, Naesammun, and Jung Hyeopmun, besides the Unhanjeong where King Jeongjo’s portrait was kept. The southern Hyangdaecheong and the Jaegigo no longer remain.
King Sunjo would hold banquets for the elderly here, and personally hold ancestral rites on the days his father was born and died.
