Tasty Stories of Dongmun Market

Tasting all the local favorites of Jeju

At Dongmun Market, visitors can enjoy all local specialties of Jeju, including tangerines and hallabong, the two most representative fruits of Jeju. As Jeju is one of the areas that is the warmest in Korea, it is possible to grow tropical fruits in Jeju and is not hard to see cheonhyeohyang or hwanggumhyang at the market along with apple mango and dragon fruit originally from Southeast Asia or China.

Foods from Dongmun Markets are often featured in shows like “Running Man” or restaurant review programs that inform of tasty restaurants in Korea, and one of the most popular is omegi-ddeok (rice cake). Made mostly from glutinous millet, this rice cake covered in bean powder and red bean topping is best recommended to be eaten hot.

Jeju-do Province being an island, it is famous for seafood. Fresh hairtail or tile fish are among many that are available for the visitors to purchase at local fish market. They can be prepared for sashimi, and the leftover can be prepared for some spicy fish soup. If you are into seafood, you must make a stop at the market.
