Welcome to your K-local food trip!
Now let’s take a closer look at the "pine mushroom" from Yangyang—a delicacy known for its amazing aroma and satisfying texture.
"Pine mushrooms" grow in harmony with living pine trees, usually near ones that are more than 20 years old. They have a gentle aroma, an earthy flavor, and a pleasantly chewy texture. You can enjoy them in several ways—lightly cooked in a clear-broth "shabu-shabu," steamed over rice in a hot stone pot, or grilled with beef. Each way brings out a different side of their unique flavor and texture.
Often called "Nature’s Gift," "pine mushrooms" are nearly impossible to farm, so they can only be gathered from the wild. They grow in just a few mountainous areas, and Yangyang in Gangwon-do is one of the most famous. With clean air and thick pine forests, Yangyang offers the perfect environment for them to grow. Mushrooms from this area are 100% wild-harvested. They’re usually 1 to 2 centimeters larger than those from other regions, and because they hold less moisture, they have a firmer texture and a stronger aroma.
Want to taste the deep flavor and rich aroma of "pine mushrooms," only found in autumn? Come to Yangyang, where the sea meets the pine forests, and enjoy this seasonal treat surrounded by nature.
