Located between Subway Line 4’s Mia and Suyu Stations, Suyu Village Market is an excellent example of how a traditional market can remain competitive among the jungle of larger department stores and supermarkets of Seoul. Constructed in the 1960s as a building, it was called Suyu Traditional Market or Suyu Market as people naturally gathered in the area.

The most popular snacks of Suyu Market are twisted bread sticks made of sticky rice, baked by highly-skilled bakers, and millet pancakes, offering a taste of home. As satisfying soups, sundae guk, or blood sausage soup, ox blood soup, and simple but delicious gomtang, or beef-bone soup, are available. On top of that, a wide variety of jeon or pan–fried delicacies, are sold as excellent street food. The delicacy of Hongeo muchim, or seasoned skate, sold at Suyu Market is well-known and is now delivered all around the country.

As the streets can be confusing to newcomers, the streets’ store signs and leaflets of Suyu Market are color-coded to provide easy access to the different areas.
