Yeolhwajeong, the Secret Hideaway Colored by the Light of Love

Welcome to your K-Culture journey! This time, we'll visit Boseong Yeolhwajeong Pavilion. It’s a relaxing place, famous for its peaceful pavilion and pond surrounded by a lush forest.

Yeolhwajeong is a pavilion built during the late Joseon Dynasty, located in Ganggol Village in Boseong, South Jeolla Province. It was built in 1845 by a government official named Yi Jin-man to teach younger generations. Its name comes from the poem "Returning Home" by Tao Yuanming. It means "a place to happily talk and spend time with family and friends." Because of its cultural importance, Yeolhwajeong was designated as an Important Folklore Cultural Heritage site in 1984. It has a unique design that works as both a pavilion and a house. The garden has an L-shaped pond in front of a wide yard, along with cherry blossom, magnolia, and pomegranate trees. It makes you feel peaceful, as if time has stopped for a moment.

Because of its romantic feel, Yeolhwajeong became an important location in the touching historical romance drama "The Red Sleeve." The drama is based on the true story of King Jeongjo and Consort Ui-bin Seong.

Deok-im: "If you keep studying without rest, you'll get sick. Please take a break. Even just for a moment, try doing something you like instead. Sometimes, you need to take care of yourself."

Yi San: "I'm already doing what I like, right here, in my favorite place, with the person I like."

As Yi San said these words, he expressed his feelings by offering Deok-im mandarins that he had lovingly grown himself at Cheongsaru Pavilion. Yeolhwajeong has a quiet and warm atmosphere. Here, the hidden feelings between the two characters became even clearer. Because of their social differences, the two characters couldn't openly share their bittersweet feelings. Their emotions matched perfectly with the beautiful atmosphere here, pulling viewers deeper into their story.

Yeolhwajeong was like a secret spot in the drama. It gently brought out the feelings of the two main characters, making their story even more touching. As you quietly walk through the peaceful garden, following traces of their love that crossed social boundaries, you'll find yourself experiencing a special, relaxing moment. You'll feel warmth deep inside your heart. Why not spend some time at Yeolhwajeong Pavilion, where you can really experience the deep feeling of love?
