“A drive in Seoul? Most people think of Bukak Skyway or Gangbyeonbuk-ro. But the perfect place to slow down lies in the east, in Gangdong District. I’ve been driving for years, and whenever I need a break, this is where I go. It’s still in the city, but peaceful — and the view outside always clears my mind.”

Let’s start at Amsa Ecological Park. It’s close to Amsa Station, but once you step inside, it feels as if you’ve left Seoul behind. A narrow trail winds through tall reeds, and the river flows quietly beside you. In winter, mist rises from the water. In summer, soft sunlight shimmers on the surface. Park your car, roll down the window, and the scent of nature you’ve forgotten in the city drifts into your taxi.

Next, follow the Gangdong Greenway, a calm road that runs along the river. Few cars pass here, and biking and walking paths stretch alongside it. Drive slowly, and you’ll feel as if the breeze itself is leading the way. In spring, cherry blossoms blanket the road. In autumn, golden ginkgo leaves pile up until the path looks like a scene from a movie. My passengers often say, “I never knew Seoul had roads like this.”

The last stop is the Iljasan Trail, one of the greenest drives in the city. Much of the road is open to cars, with small rest areas and outdoor gyms where you can stop for a short walk. In late autumn, sunlight filters through crimson leaves, and at night, the sound of insects and rustling trees fills the air — sounds you’ll rarely hear anywhere else in Seoul.
