Nightscapes of Korea takes you to places where the night shines even brighter. Today, we journey to Gangmun Beach in Gangneung, where the sea washes away the noise of everyday life, offering a moment of quiet comfort and peace.
Gangmun Beach, which means "the mouth where the river flows," is a beautiful place where soft white sand meets the blue East Sea. It's much quieter and more peaceful than nearby Gyeongpo Beach. Here, you can enjoy a calm walk and deep thoughts, with the sound of the crashing waves and the cool sea breeze by your side.
When the sun starts to set, Gangmun Beach shows a different, more beautiful side. The walking path along the coast lights up, and the beach glows with a warm light. The Sotdae Bridge, which connects Gangmun Beach to nearby Gyeongpo Beach, lights up with a spectacular rainbow of LED arches. This creates a magical scene that blends perfectly with the charm of the night sea.
Sotdae Bridge is a modern cultural space that was inspired by the traditional sotdae, a totem pole once used to pray for a village's peace and good fortune. Below the bridge, you'll find the "Jjinttaebaegi Wish Sculpture" where you can make your own wish and experience a part of Korean folk culture. When you stand on the bridge, you'll get a beautiful, panoramic night view that connects the two beaches. From a distance, the bridge looks like a giant rainbow of light floating over the sea.
As night gets deeper, Gangmun Beach turns into a stunning stage of light. The glowing LED lights of Sotdae Bridge blend beautifully with the ocean waves. Whether you're looking at the bridge or walking on it, you can feel the stress of daily life disappear, replaced by a gentle sense of peace.
Step away from your noisy daily life and find true rest and comfort at Gangmun Beach. Here, the quiet night and the bridge of light come together to offer a moment of peaceful calm.
