The exhibit offers insight into the intricate iron manufacturing process that contributed to Gaya’s significant iron production. It wasn't solely owing to abundant iron ore deposits but also due to the country’s advanced manufacturing techniques.
The area resembles a forge, depicting the intricate process of extracting iron from iron ore. The initial stage, smelting, involved extracting iron from the ore.
Notice the individual crouched at the right end? He's blowing air into the furnace, crucial for elevating the temperature necessary to melt the iron. The process yielded chunks of iron, repeated to produce more. Next, the chunks underwent heating and hammering by the workers on the left side of the furnace. The iterative process continued until pure iron ingots were formed, serving as the foundational material for crafting ironware like swords and spears.
The iron manufacturing process demanded a complex sequence of operations. Initially influenced by technology from the northern Korean Peninsula, the people of Gaya eventually developed their independent iron manufacturing industry. Renowned for their intricate techniques, Gaya earned the moniker 'the iron kingdom' due to their mastery of these tempering processes.
