The diorama illustrates a pivotal battle in Gaya during the late 4th to early 5th centuries, marking a significant event in Gaya's history.
With an advanced iron industry, Gaya sought to expand its territory, initiating conflict by invading its neighbor, Silla. Initially, the conflict was limited in scale. However, Silla reached out to Goguryeo for seeking support, which was a formidable military power in the northern peninsula. In response, Gaya sought assistance from Japan and other allied nations, turning the conflict into the first international war in East Asia.
The diorama portrays a crucial confrontation between Gaya and Goguryeo at a strategic location, signifying the commencement of Geumgwan Gaya's decline. Despite Gaya's advanced technology in armor and weaponry, it proved insufficient against the overwhelming numbers and effective military tactics of Goguryeo's troops. This defeat marked the downfall of Geumgwan Gaya.
Consequently, Gaya lost its hegemony within the confederacy, allowing Dae Gaya to assume control afterward.
