Downsized Iron Farming Tools
There are other unique artifacts exhibited in this museum.
Take a look at these pieces of model ironware. These are a downsized version of ironware that was used in everyday life.
These were found in the ancient tombs of Dae Gaya. Most ironware was farming tools such as the axe and sickle. The tool with a square body was used to supply or block water to the farming field, and the diamond-shaped farming tool next to it was used to cultivate soil.
Look carefully. Can you see where the handle was attached to? We can’t see it handle now as the wooden handle decayed while the iron part remained.
So why did the people of Dae Gaya produce small farming tools and put them in the tombs?
Ancient people thought that tombs were houses that the deceased lived in. That’s why tools that the deceased used to use when they were alive were put with their bodies in the tomb. But the farming tools were too big to put in, so they were downsized so that they would fit in the grave.
