Tombs of the Ruling Class
At the middle of the ridge where there’s a hill, four ancient tombs are located with 2-3 meters apart from each other.
From among these, the Tomb No. 35 was the first one to be constructed among the middle and large sized tombs of the ancient tomb complex in Jisan-dong. This tomb marks the beginning of the tombs for Dae Gaya’s ruling class.
The Tomb Nos. 32 and 33 are interesting. A gilt-bronze crown was excavated from the Tomb No. 32, and it is currently exhibited in Daegaya Museum. We assume that the tomb belongs to a king or a male of very high status. But when they excavated the Tomb No. 33, many artifacts related to a female were found. That’s why we speculate that these tombs belonged to a husband and wife.
The relationship between the Tomb Nos. 34 and 35 is also interesting. Between the two tombs, a burial chamber was found with the skeleton of a 5-year-old boy. It is highly likely that the two tombs belonged to a husband and wife, while the little boy was their son.
Funerary objects symbolizing high social position were found next to the child. Finding such extravagant artifacts even with a child suggests to us that the society was a highly developed hierarchical society.
