Goryeong, the Stage of Dae Gaya’s Development
You can see all of Goryeong at a glance from the top of here.
This geography is also related to a series of royal tombs near the mountaintop. Kings probably thought that they could look over the area even after their death if they were to lie here.
From here, you can see the site of Dae Gaya’s royal palace, where the owners of the royal tombs resided in the past. Jusanseong Fortress is related to this palace site. It is Dae Gaya’s first fortress built with stones. Dae Gaya constructed many fortresses to defend itself from the neighboring kingdom of Silla. Nearly 20 fortresses, other than Jusanseong, were found in various other mountains.
Kings and the ruling class of Dae Gaya probably resided in the palace most of the time, and escaped to Jusanseong during wartime. This Jisan-dong area is surrounded by mountains, and enables easy monitoring of the enemy and defense against them.
Jusan Mountain surrounds Goryeong, the central region of Dae Gaya, and in turn the tombs of Dae Gaya are located on this mountain. Experience the history within nature here.
