Yeongmogak Exhibition
Yeongmogak Exhibition, built in Chunghyodang Hall in 1966, serves as an exhibition hall preserving the relics of Ryu Seongryong. The name ‘Yeongmo’ means ‘waiting and longing for a long time.’ It showcases a variety of items including the royal decree appointing him as the Prime Minister (Yeonguijeong), the garments and shoes he wore in office, his written works, and personal belongings, allowing visitors to trace the life Ryu Seongryong led.
His achievements related to the Imjinwaeran (the Japanese Invasion of Joseon) especially offer profound lessons. It was Ryu Seongryong who, even before the outbreak of the war, appointed Yi Sun-sin as the Naval Commander of the Left Jeolla Province and Kwon Yul as the Governor of Uiju, preparing for the Japanese invasion. Without his foresight, would we have had the chance to meet the great heroes of the Imjinwaeran, Generals Yi Sun-sin and Kwon Yul?
Another significant achievement of Ryu Seongryong is the authorship of Jingbirok, The Book of Correction, a memoir that meticulously records the causes and events of the Imjinwaeran. The Jingbirok reflects on the mistakes that led to the national crisis, emphasizing the need to prepare for the future. Jingbirok, along with the Nanjung ilgi (War Diary) of Yi Sun-sin, serves as a valuable resource for studying the circumstances before and after the Imjinwaeran, offering profound lessons to future generations.
