Mulbong Hill and Tug-of-War
[Narration]
From Mulbong Hill you can see a valley called Mulbonggol, which continues to another valley called Angol. The people of this village still live in traditional houses scattered around this area.
With the head houses of the Son and Yi families as the center, Yangdong Village can be divided into two parts: the upper village and the lower village.
There is a traditional game between the two villages that has been handed down to the present day. On the 15th of January on the lunar calendar, both villages make a straw rope for a tug-of-war contest. It is said that the ancient Egyptians played the same game. Let's ask the villagers what it meant to them.

It is said that if the upper village wins the contest, there will be a good harvest that year, and if the lower village wins, the village will be peaceful. Don't get me wrong. When we hold a tug-of-war it is important that we have a good result no matter who wins the game. Therefore, we can all attend the event with a light heart. When we are done competing we cut a piece of the rope from the winner’s side and throw it on the roof. We believe that this brings peace in the family for a whole year. That's why this event is still considered the biggest town event and why we continue to maintain it as a traditional custom.
