Buyeo and Samhan
Before Korea’s tribal societies developed into kingdoms, different regional political groups were established on the peninsula. Each group developed an independent culture. This room exhibits artifacts from these cultures ranging from the time of the collapse of Gojoseon in 108 B.C. through to 400 A.D.
Different political structures developed in different parts of the peninsula. In the north were early ancient kingdoms including Buyeo. In the south, there were three groups of nations called Samhan, each of which consisted of dozens of different tribal states. Besides that, there were two chiefdoms composed of numerous communities.
Let’s take a look at the culture of each group.
