Hanseong Period of the Baekje Dynasty
The artifacts displayed here are iron weapons. Around 2000 years ago, the capital of Baekje was located to Hanseong which was near today’s Seoul area, and Baekje worked hard to establish the foundations of its ancient dynasty. These artifacts were used at the time.
Baekje was originally founded by people from Goguryeo, the kingdom that was situated in the northeastern region of China and northern part of the Korean Peninsula. Royal nobles who failed to seize political power moved southward and founded Baekje Kingdom.
Baekje continued to expand by conquering smaller, neighboring countries and became a strong kingdom due to its exceptional agricultural production and mounting food surpluses. Baekje was in its prime during the 4th century. The Kingdom had acquired the northwestern and southwestern regions of the Korean Peninsula, and the northern regions of China.
These artifacts are iron weapons and a horse harness that was used in the battles that Baekje engaged in to amass territory.
