Dokkaebi Stool
The super mirror polishing processing applied to ‘Dokkaebi Stool’ make the artwork become the most strange and artificial structure existing in the natural space along the Hangang(River).
The simple cylindrical and straight shape and smooth surface of Dokkaebi Stool that is installed artificially will give you some special and unexpected fun.
The 24 Dokkaebi stools placed between pine trees, which are elaborately processed, absorb the images of their surrounding environment including grasses and trees, exactly like Dokkaebi does, who disappear when it wears a Dokkaebi hat, and thereby cause illusion as if everything disappears right in front of your eyes.
I would like to provide a whole new experience to you with the most artificial object placed in a most natural space, which will function as a stool as well.
I am Jiyoun Kim, and I am a designer.
The Hangang(River), flowing through the center of Seoul, is a magnificent symbol. People exercise, date, take a walk or take a rest in the Hangang(River).
We all love the river as it is.
Walking along the river, however, you may find something is missing. You may need some artificial structures such as some places to take a rest or trash bins to dispose empty cans in your hand.
There already are many artificial structures around the Hangang(River). I tried to make an ironical situation in which people use an artificial structure in order to feel and enjoy the nature. In Korea, Dokkaebi is a legendary creature from folklore. You may encounter a Dokkaebi in unexpected places. It is a bit scary but friendly and mischievous at the same time.
‘Dokkaebi Stool’ may look like a strange structure installed in a natural. You may encounter Dokkaebi Stool in an unexpected place walking down along the Hangang(River). Why don’t you stop for a moment and listen to the sound of breeze blowing from pine trees when you encounter the stool?
