This celadon melon-shaped pitcher with an incised lotus design forms a set with a lid, and was made around the twelfth to thirteenth century. The body of the pitcher and the lid feature ten lobes, in each of which the design of a lotus flower and lotus leaf stem is vividly incised; while the lower sides of the lid, mouth and body are decorated with a single line of a lotus flower pattern. The pitcher is evenly coated with a transparent, clear bluish glaze and has fine cracks in places. As middle and upper class people of the Goryeo Dynasty prized melons as refreshments at that time, the body of many celadon pitchers and vases are shaped like a round melon.
