Celadon Oil Bottle
This small celadon oil bottle dating to the thirteenth century was used to contain oil, especially expensive imported perfumed oils such as musk, oriental orchid, red or white sandalwood oil, during the Goryeo Dynasty. Perfumed oils were mainly consumed by the aristocracy, so oil bottles were generally decorated with attractive patterns including crane, peony, and chrysanthemum in the sanggam technique or the underglaze iron brown technique. You can perhaps imagine what the Goryeo people’s tastes and styles were like at that time!
