This is a 1/10 scale replica of a Goryeo celadon kiln that was built about 800 years ago, and was excavated in 1998. The kiln consists of a firing chamber in which celadon wares were baked at high temperature by making a fire in the furnace.
Many celadon fragments were discovered in the area to the right of the kiln. These fragments are the remains of defective wares that were discarded next to the kiln. Generally speaking, the large quantities of celadon fragments of defective wares discovered at kiln sites are important materials for academic research. We can also see several cylindrical shaped objects made of clay on the left of the kiln. These are what are known as ‘dojimi’, which were placed under the celadons to prevent them from getting stained by dirt from the kiln floor during baking. We can see the wisdom of potters of the Goryeo Dynasty.
